My thoughts this week on life in general have been inspired by the ‘life changing experience’ I had last Thursday night... get ready for this ... I went to the AC/DC concert!
Why was it life changing?
Apart from the fact that it probably ruptured my ear drums it made me think far more deeply about life and success than one would think a loud, attack on the senses by some old crazy rock and rollers would!
Watching them create their awesome magic I was conscious of several interesting factors
1. They are incredibly talented and successful
2. They have been around since I was in school in the 70’s
3. They wouldn’t be generally classed as typically good looking
4. They have been pushing their music for over 30 years – no doubt with their failures over the decades
5. They lost an integral member of the band when Bon Scott died prematurely – they could have given up then as Bon was such a charismatic lead singer but they found a new singer in Brian Johnson, relaunched themselves and kept going with growing success.
I grew up with their music and remember when they played at a local high school some of the kids loved to recall how they gave them a really hard time. It would have been tough putting yourself out there but they persevered and look where they are today – one of the most successful rock bands in the world.
I read an article this week and pulled out the following quote given by a long time friend of the band’s who knew the Young brothers, Angus and Malcolm before they formed in 1972. She said;
“They were determined. There was no doubt they would make something happen,” Riccobono says. “They are one-eyed about what they want. And they never steered from that path.” She said AC/DC has the same spirit, humility and work ethic as it did 37 years ago.
How many of us give up after one or two tries?
How many of us put other factors in the way of our success e.g. I don’t have the right look, the right hair, I’m not tall enough etc
How many of us let a hiccup on our pathway signal the end of the dream and we simply give up on that dream?
How many of us harbour a dream that we thought would take too much time or would be too scary to pursue?
What are you holding back on?
How determined are you?
What are you prepared to do to get what you dream of?
What are you prepared to miss out on in life by not applying yourself to achievement of your goals?
What could the rewards be if you do aim for the stars?
What are you going to do this week to move you one step closer to the stars?
